Drumbeat signals KPL action - live on SS

Posted on : Tuesday, March 09, 2010  (11:30)
Following the successful midweek Kenya Premier League match last week, ardent football fans will get a second chance to enjoy a Wednesday evening tie when champions Sofapaka take on AFC Leopards from 6pm on SuperSport Select.

With both still suffering from lingering continental competition hangover, where they both crashed out, this will be a mouthwatering tie as they seek to re-focus their attention to the KPL.

With the sides boasting some of the league’s most fervent support, this tension will be off the pitch as well, with the fabled Isikuti drums of passionate Leopards fans going head to head with the Sofapaka drums in the Nairobi night.

The match will also be a repeat of the season’s curtain raiser, the DStv SuperSport Cup that saw the league champions edge Leopards by a single goal in a hard-fought match last month.

Though Sofapaka boast a superior head-to-head record, having won three of their last four meetings, they will be wary of an Ingwe side capable of rising to the occasion.

The league leaders also suffered a shock 2-1 reverse against KCB last weekend, which had coach Robert Matano issue the hairdryer treatment, where he accused his players of taking it easy.

With an embarrassment of riches to choose from, Matano can be expected to ring the changes as he seeks a winning formula.

Humphrey Mieno, who has impressed since his transfer from KCB, will again be relied on to provide midfield guile with Anthony Kimani and skipper James Situma in close support, while up front John Barasa will be expected to get the goals.

Ingwe, as Leopards are popularly known, go into the match on a high, having notched their first victory of the season last weekend with a 1-0 win over Thika United.

The win provided some respite for the troubled club which has had its fair share of up and downs this season with wrangles over management and players.

Coach Chris Makokha will again call on impressive youngster Martin Imbalambala to hold his defence together, assisted by Milton Milimo, Gregory Matasio and Franklin Osama.

Up front, Makokha will hope that Dimonde Selenge can keep his goal-scoring boots.

Audiences are invited to tune into SuperSport or go to SuperSport.com for additional info, highlights and starting times.

Viewers can also press OK on the DStv remote control.
