Non-stop KPL action on SuperSport

Posted on : Wednesday, March 10, 2010  (2:54 )
The high drama of the Kenya Premier League continues unabated this weekend live and exclusive to SuperSport.

On Saturday, the SuperSport crew will be at Hope Centre for the Nairobi City Stars-Chemilil clash from 3pm on SuperSport Select and a day later will be back in Nakuru for a local derby pitting Ulinzi against Red Berets at Afraha stadium from 3pm, also on SuperSport Select.

The Hope Centre match-up will be an intriguing affair with both teams yet to win a match this season. City Stars have drawn all three games while Chemilil have already lost twice and drawn once.

City Stars had a similarly slow start last season but they will be keen to get the monkey off their back with a win while Chemilil have found life without former coach Zedekiah Zico Otieno tough.

A key aspect of the failure of both sides to muster wins has been the dearth of goals. Chemilil have scored just once this season while City Stars haven’t found the net since the 2-2 draw against Mathare in the opening round of the season.

The onus will thus fall on the recalled Jimmy Bageya, Francis Thairu and Levy Muaka to do the job for City Stars while Alloys Mangi, Joseph Mwangi and skipper Wycliffe Opondo will have to lead by example for the sugarmen.

Sunday will see a local derby in the heart of the Rift valley as Berets and Ulinzi clash. Not only are they based in Nakuru, but both are drawn from the armed forces.

But that’s where the similarities end.

While Ulinzi have made a bright start to the season with two wins and a draw, Berets have already suffered two defeats and needed a boardroom decision to register their first points.

The army men recruited well last season and it is paying dividends, although a curious statistic is that they have scored just twice in three matches. They’ve no doubt been helped by a parsimonious defence that has yet to concede.

Berets will be buoyed by the decision by the Independent Disciplinary and Appeals committee to award them three points for their match against Thika which moved them up from bottom of the league to 11th. But they know that they have to back their pretty football with results.

They certainly have the players with a licence to thrill with Gabriel Nduro and Joseph Asudza playing a leading role.

Audiences are invited to tune into SuperSport or go to www.supersport.com for additional info, highlights starting times. Viewers can also press OK on the DStv remote control.
