SUPERSPORT, the television company that broadcasts the Kenyan Premier League announced on Thursday the addition of former Dutch superstar Edgar Davids to its expert panel for the Fifa World Cup.
Kenyan viewers and keen follower of the Kenyan Premiership, which recently opened with unprecedented passion, will be able to follow the World Cup as presented by a familiar face of European and World football that they never imagined would be walking on the same ground in Africa.
Celebrated for his skill (as well as his penchant for permanently wearing dark glasses), Davids was once named by Pelé as one of the world’s top 100 living footballers.
In a first for the South African television company, SuperSport will also offer four language commentary options (English, Portuguese, isiZulu and Sotho), they reported on their website SuperSport.com.
SuperSport unveiled a glitzy programme line-up designed to reflect the World Cup in all its glory.

• The World Cup will be SuperSport’s biggest production in its 23-year history.
• There will be four customised World Cup channels, one of which will be High Definition (HD), with three broadcasting 24 hours daily (SS3, SS4 and Maximo).
• There will be four daily magazine shows – Chase the Makarapa; Woza Lunchtime; Supernova and Harambee.
• Woza Lunchtime will be hosted by Elana Afrika, Bobby Skinstad, Michelle McLean and Nonhle Thema.
• Supernova will be presented by KTV/Vuzu presenters.
• SuperSport will receive the live feed from HBS, Swiss-based host broadcaster of the tournament.
• An unprecedented 29 cameras will be used per match.
• SuperSport are exclusive pay TV rights holders for Africa and will have full access to Fifa’s content library, which will offer 100+ hours of daily content.
• Fifa’s access to the teams means that much behind-the-scenes action, restricted to other media, will be broadcast on SuperSport.
• In addition, SuperSport Blitz will have nine crews around the country capturing the spirit of football supporters.
• To complement its coverage, SuperSport will have a brand new multi-purpose High Definition studio set; the biggest in its history.
• SuperSport has a number of big-name hosts lined up, among them England’s John Barnes, Davids and Daniel Amokachi of Nigeria, with more stars to be announced.
• Regular anchors will be Robert Marawa, Thomas Mlambo, Neil Andrews, Thomas Kwenaite, Peter Davies and Charles Anazodo of Nigeria.
• All matches will offer four language options: English, Portuguese, Sotho and isiZulu. |
