CHEMELIL Sugar will have a roster of only 25 players for the 2013 Tusker Premier League a number club secretary Sam Ndung’u said was dictated by their financial situation.
He finalised his signings on Thursday morning on the last day of the transfer period.
Ten serving players had their contracts extended till the end of the 2014 season and nine will be freshmen. But the club spent conservatively, their maximum buy being Sh40,000/- for Agro Chemicals striker John Mwita.
“We have a lean squad. We would have preferred 28 players like last season but we have to make do with the reduced number,” Ndung’u said.
Long serving ex-Kenya striker Mike Mururi takes full charge for the first time, having previously served as a player/assistant coach. Edward Manoah, head coach last season, is not returning.
There is a visible presence of imports from Naivasha-based clubs, James Macharia, Samuel Ouma and Edwin Misiko joining from Oserian and Kevin Omondi from Karuturi Sports.
